Nowadays blogs have become an important way of express ourselves in the internet. Here everybody can read your ideas, thoughts, feelings, etc., and give you a comment expressing agreement or disagreement. That idea of writing what you want and people reading it, is very challenging for students at school, because they can improve the way they write and the way they express their own ideas in their own words. But on the other hand I can say that sometimes blogs allow students to write in inappropriate way when they are not supervised by the teacher or parents.
Some students are not really confident when they have to express their thoughts and ideas orally, but they have the gift of communicate them in written words. Here blogs are the special tool which allows them to communicate what they want whenever they want. For example from my own experience I can say that I prefer to express myself by writing what I think, because there is not the pressure of being watched by other people or the feeling of saying something and not to be understood because you are nervous. When I write I feel more confident because I have the enough time to think and to organize my ideas. What we have beet doing in this course with blogs make me feel that I had improve my writing in English because we have the opportunity to write about interesting topics and to express what are our feelings or ideas of them focusing on our grammar mistakes or in our general mistakes.
One disadvantage of using blogs in the classroom is when students don’t follow the correct way of writing even though the have really good ideas. Some people use to write in the same way they speak, which is not very good in terms of communication in blogs. When you write in the same way you speak you let the reader understand what he/she wants because you are not clear with your writing and the words you use may be are not the correct ones. So, here the teacher is very important because he is the person in charged of the student’s writing, and he has to correct their mistakes as well as making sure that he understood and he is going to write correctly in the future.
In conclusion I can say that blogs are very useful to improve students writing. Blogs allow students to be confident while they are writing and make them feel that they can express their ideas clearly. We as future teachers will be responsible about our students’ writings, that is why now we have to improve more and more our way of write, and if blogs help us a lot now to do it, blogs will help our students a lot to improve themselves.
